A smooth rental starts before you receive the keys. This guide explains which questions to ask, what to inspect and how to avoid misunderstandings without assuming that every rental has identical conditions.

Confirm documents and payment conditions
Ask which identification, driving licence and payment method are required. Driver age, driving experience, deposit and additional-driver conditions depend on the confirmed rental and vehicle class.
If your licence was issued abroad, ask in advance whether an international permit or translation is required in your case.

Inspect the vehicle before departure
Take a few minutes to compare existing damage with the handover record, photograph the vehicle, check the fuel level and learn the basic controls. Report anything unclear before leaving.
Locate the vehicle documents and emergency contact details. For winter or mountain travel, specifically ask about equipment and current driving conditions.

Fuel, delays and vehicle return
Check the fuel rule, mileage, late-return process and cleanliness requirements in your agreement. Contact the rental team early if your return plan changes.

Border travel needs prior approval
Mention Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia or any other country before confirmation. Permission, documents, insurance territory and any fee depend on the vehicle and agreement.
The same applies to returning in another city or country. Ask for the arrangement in writing.
